Get Friend Feed
One download gets you everything. The app installs the free addon into your game, keeps it up to date, and is where you can upgrade to Offline & Social if you want it.
Your computer will warn you. That's expected.
Friend Feed is a small fan project, so the app isn't signed with a paid Microsoft or Apple certificate yet. Until it is, Windows and macOS block it the first time you open it and show a warning that looks scary. Follow the steps below to get past it. It takes about 30 seconds and only happens once.
- The warning means “we don't know this developer yet”, not “we found a virus”.
- Only download Friend Feed from this page. The files come from our release page on GitHub.
- The app only reads and writes Friend Feed's own files in your game folder.
- 1
Download and open the installer
Click Download for Windows above, then open FriendFeed-Setup.exe from your downloads.
If your browser says the file isn't commonly downloaded, choose Keep (in Edge: the … menu, then Keep, then Keep anyway).
- 2
Windows shows a blue warning: click More info
This is the warning. Don't click Don't run. Click the small More info link under the text instead.
- 3
Click Run anyway
A Run anyway button appears. Click it. “Unknown publisher” is normal: it only means we haven't bought a signing certificate.
- 4
Done. Friend Feed opens and lives by the clock
It installs in a few seconds with no extra questions, then opens. Sign in with Battle.net and it finds your game and installs the addon. After that it runs quietly in the tray, next to the clock (you may need the ^ arrow to see it).
You only do this once. Updates install by themselves without the warning.
- 1
Download, then drag Friend Feed into Applications
Click Download for macOS above and open FriendFeed.dmg. Drag the Friend Feed icon onto the Applications folder, then open Friend Feed from Applications.
- 2
Your Mac says it can't open it: click Done
This is the warning. Click Done. Don't choose Move to Trash.
Older macOS says “can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”. Click OK and carry on the same way.
- 3
Open System Settings, Privacy & Security
Open the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll down to Security and click Open Anyway next to “Friend Feed” was blocked.
The button only shows for about an hour after step 2. If it's gone, open Friend Feed again.
- 4
Click Open Anyway again and enter your Mac password
Your Mac asks one more time. Click Open Anyway and enter your Mac's password (or use Touch ID). Friend Feed opens. Sign in with Battle.net and it finds your game and installs the addon.
You only do this once. After that Friend Feed lives in the menu bar at the top right of your screen.
Then, in game
Log in to Forever
If the game was already running, log out and back in so it loads the addon.
Look for the feed
The Friend Feed window appears in the top left, with a button on your minimap. Type /ff for settings.
Tell your friends
You only see milestones from friends who have Friend Feed too. Send them this page.
Only want the addon?
The addon is free and works on its own for friends online at the same time as you. It's a plain zip file, so there's no warning to click through.
- Download the zip and unzip it.
- Move the FriendFeed folder into
World of Warcraft\_forever_\Interface\AddOns. - Restart the game.
Without the app you update it yourself, and there's no offline history.
Still stuck?
Why isn't the app signed?
Signing certificates from Microsoft and Apple cost hundreds of dollars a year, and Friend Feed is a small fan project. Unsigned apps aren't unsafe; your computer just has no publisher name to show you.
Windows has no Run anyway button
Click More info first; the button only appears after that. If your PC is managed by a school or work, its owner may have turned this off.
My Mac says Friend Feed is damaged
Move Friend Feed into Applications first, then open the Terminal app and paste this line, then press Return:
xattr -cr "/Applications/Friend Feed.app"
That removes the downloaded-from-the-internet mark. Then open Friend Feed again.
I installed it, but nothing opened
Look for the Friend Feed icon in the tray next to the clock (Windows) or in the menu bar at the top right (Mac), and click it.
